Hi everyone
Apologies in advance for the minimal update coming this July 2008. Things here have been hectic, we have a move coming up so life is very busy here with all the things to organise. I have not had much time to dedicate to the site as I have been working on new projects (the Psalm Drummer web site is going live soon with a brand new theme… and a lot work!). There is a great article coming out tomorrow about raising up drummers in your church and I have a few interviews lined up with some rather well-known drummers too!
I also hope to be releasing a book (co-written) before the end of the year which I hope everyone will enjoy and find useful! And I am also writing another book which I am very excited about (for drummers of course!) which will be published next year!
Later!
Matt
The Global Solo Project has been postponed indefinitely due to family circumstances. I will be sure to inform everyone when the project begins.
The Heartbeat for Worship Conference & Celebration is a day long worship event full of seminar classes, morning workshops for hand drummers and percussionist alike as well as an evening concert that will be a blend of several styles of music from across the globe. This day-long worship experience entails sessions involving teaching on history, and culture of various drums and rhythm styles, as well as basic, intermediate, and advanced drum techniques. There will be a worship concert in the evening where we will be playing different musical styles from several different countries from all around the globe. This will be done as a celebration to God and his diversity and to inspire, invoke, and stimulate creativity and the spirit of excellence in worship. It is our desire to not only inspire drummers, but to help promote unity amongst believers in Worship to our Father God, and break down cultural, and racial barriers that exist within the Church…the body of Christ.
Purpose & Vision
The Heartbeat for Worship Conference and Celebration is founded by William Johnson of Overcoming Church Ministries where the Pastors are Bishop Melvin and pastor Charlotte Lambert. The “Heartbeat Conference” is a Christian event designed to provoke hand drummers and percussionist alike to worship God in their gift with the passion that God desires. It is a one day worship event full of teaching for drummers seeking to have a closer walk with Jesus, and become more skilled in their craft. It is our goal to promote the spirit of excellence in worship, to provoke a sincere, and fervent prayer life, the reading of God’s Word as it applies to the music minister, and set aside time to study as well as practice upon instruments.
The “Heartbeat Conference” is also designed to provoke all musicians, believers, and unbelievers alike to hunger and thirst for a closer relationship with Jesus. It is our desire to see not only drummers, but all peoples to come in the knowledge and wisdom that God desires us to display the gifts he has given to us with an intense focus on purpose, passion, creativity, innovative ideas, and to become transformed into the beings we are destined to be. Drummers are not called to play music alone, but to worship God with a sincere prayer life, reading His Word, obedience to ministry, and leadership in the church. When this takes place within a drummer’s life, it will redirect their focus to their Godly purpose and transform them from powerless players, to powerful Worship leaders.

A drummer from South Africa, Jay Thomson, has made a presentation he did with the drummers at his church available for all to use. Many thanks, Jay!
I have created a Flash version (Screencast) of the presentation so you can view it online but you can also download the PowerPoint file as well.
The title of the presentation is called ‘We live in faith of rhythm’ and is really cool to watch. I wish we had Jay doing a voice-over or something for the slides as some slides might not make much sense without some explanation – but you can email Jay for any further clarifications.
Hey everyone,
I am back from holiday now!
Just thought I’d let you know there’s a new post from Mick Hogan on the site called Spontaneous Creativity. That title should get you interested right away! Mick covers creativity in a band situation and how you can bring freedom in your music through discipline. Worth a read, go on!
As always, it’s in the Contributors section >>
