Being in worship team is more than just keeping the beat. In fact, I started this web site because that was my conviction : there is more to being a drummer in a worship team than just keeping the beat! A proficient worship leader would expect those basic qualities in a drummer as a given. But I would think that the worship leader would expect more, and moreso in the area of sensitivity. It’s all very well having a drummer in your church playing in the worship team. What happens when that drummer has to leave or cannot drum anymore? Do you have other drummers, ready to pick up where he left off and even ready and willing to go further?
Having more than one drummer in your church is not a bad thing. Trust me. It’s a good thing, because you have talent that you can sharpen and train to ‘come up through the ranks’ in the worship team and become drummers of sensitivity, maturity and with hearts for worship. Continue reading »
Some churches who profess to be Christian and Bible-based seem to have a problem with using a drum kit in church as part of the worship. To play in the natural physical world is easy. To play and be aware of the supernatural above the natural is not. There have been times when I have played in ‘worship’ and, in the natural physical it all sounded great with no mistakes and a good groove. But, afterwards, I realise it was all me and I not not spiritually aware or sensitive to the Holy Spirit and potentially missed opportunities to worship in God’s presence. Continue reading »
