The drums have a wonderful knack of drawing people together, no matter what race or creed. People from all over respond to the power of rhythm. I believe this natural response is just that…a natural response! God has hard-wired our DNA to create and respond to rhythm.
I had the opportunity to be involved in some drum performances and public drum circle facilitation with The Gathering at a massive Christian youth event in Northern Ireland called Summer Madness. I hadn’t had so much fun with percussion in a long time!

The Gathering was involved in Summer Madness and the Street Reach project this Summer. Many opportunities were available for the drummers to be able to play and worship and perform for the delight of onlookers. The clips are from our performances on Saturday evening on the 30th of June 2007.
I stayed on my congas (as usual) and other percussive toys. I also got to play my didgeridoo again which was cool. I truly found happiness when I was able to briefly facilitate some rhythms with a rather large crowd and thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the people. I am writing an article at the moment on drums and people, so keep an eye out for that one.

When I talk about evangelism, I refer to the communicating of the gospel of God to people by whatever means necessary. In the book of Matthew, towards the end, Jesus says to his disciples just before leaving them : “Go and make disciples of all nations…”. Christians refer to this as the Great Commission. There are many ways to evangelise. The most obvious is to preach, to simply tell people. Unfortunately, in some circumstances, preaching isn’t going to do it. Some places on earth are simply “over-evangelised”. The people have heard it so many times, their hearts have become hard and calloused. Their ears have become deaf to the Gospel. This does not mean that God cannot do anything. Other ways of reaching people need to be employed. Man needs to become a little bit more pro-active. The city of Nineveh, God could’ve saved that Himself with no help at all, but He wanted Jonah to play an active role in getting the people to hear the message. God wants us to be active in our Faith.
