When I talk about evangelism, I refer to the communicating of the gospel of God to people by whatever means necessary. In the book of Matthew, towards the end, Jesus says to his disciples just before leaving them : “Go and make disciples of all nations…”. Christians refer to this as the Great Commission. There are many ways to evangelise. The most obvious is to preach, to simply tell people. Unfortunately, in some circumstances, preaching isn’t going to do it. Some places on earth are simply “over-evangelised”. The people have heard it so many times, their hearts have become hard and calloused. Their ears have become deaf to the Gospel. This does not mean that God cannot do anything. Other ways of reaching people need to be employed. Man needs to become a little bit more pro-active. The city of Nineveh, God could’ve saved that Himself with no help at all, but He wanted Jonah to play an active role in getting the people to hear the message. God wants us to be active in our Faith.
